Hope, Community, and the Journey After Pregnancy and Infant Loss

by Amber Weems

Hope is knowing that better days are ahead even in the midst of a storm.

Even while we are missing our babies, God will still give us joy, peace and comfort. Connection is key. Staying connected with family and friends is what is going to get us through some of the toughest days. On tough days, it is okay to share how we are feeling in the moment and people will not only respect our feelings but often I have found them to be encouraging too. Our family and friends cannot support or help if they do not know that we are open to receiving support and communicating about how we feel.

In my darkest days, I find myself reflecting on the time I had with my baby girl, Journee. Her spirit will always be with me and I recognize that by talking to her and wearing jewelry and clothing that reminds me that she is still near. Hope does not mean forgetting about our babies or no longer honoring their lives but it is a conscious effort that we have to believe and have faith.

God said in His word that he would never leave us nor forsake us. He also said that He would not put more on us than he could bear. Losing a child can feel like all hope is gone but if we put our Hope in Jesus He will see us through. While that will look different for each person, know that your journey is special and does not have to look like anyone else's. Be encouraged and know that we are stronger together. We matter, our babies matter, and our lives matter so we must continue to have hope and be living testaments to God's goodness even in the midst of the storm.

Below are acronyms of Hope that are uplifting and encouraging for all of us to speak over our

lives even when it seems all hope is gone.
